“93 points. This wine exhibits plenty of plum, black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, mocha and coffee bean in a lush, delicious, and opulently textured style. It is drinking beautifully already and will continue to evolve for another decade or more.” – Robert Parker, Wine Advocate

“With its amazing aromatic depth and chiseled focus, this bottling joins 2001, 2007, and 2012 in the pantheon of truly great Paloma Merlots. The nose is a dense perfume of mulberry, blackberry, black currant, blueberry, Asian plum sauce, bitter chocolate-covered dark cherry, espresso bean, licorice root, black truffle, humidor-spice, graphite, charcoal, mace, and lavender scents. Each of these elements is expressed on the mid-palate, counter-pointing firm “Cabernet-like” tannins and classic mountain structure to create a lean yet almost sinewy mouth-feel. The finish is a tightly wound but lingering cascade of dark berry, black fig, black licorice, tobacco, charcoal, graphite, truffle, star anise, cedar, sandalwood, and foresty-spice, with gentler suggestions of lavender and toasted Marcona almond. If it's five to twelve years from its full maturity, it is a fascinating beauty already.” – Don Gillette, Napa Valley Wine Exchange, San Francisco

The 2013 is a blend of Merlot (85%) with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon (15%). It is fermented and then aged in French oak—33% new—for 18 months before being bottled in the Spring, then bottle-aged for an additional 18 months before release.

The full flavor followed by a delicious tannin - this wine is my absolute favorite. Does not disappoint!

I have purchased close to 2 cases of this wine over the years. Had one over the weekend and as usual, it is a stunning merlot in its prime drinking window with a minimum of 5 years of prime drinking ahead. It is a masterful merlot that has more power than most napa merlots, but still merlot finesse and soft tannins. Incredible complexity in the nose and mouth. Can't believe it is still available.

Enjoyed over Christmas. Drinking like a fine Bordeaux. Medium body with layers of flavor. Congrats to the Richard family!

This Merlot was my introduction to Paloma and I am thrilled I have found them. Since trying the 2013 I have purchased every available vintage. The 2013 is a beautiful Merlot, extremely balanced with full flavors.

From the first vintage I ever tasted, poured for me by Jim Richards in 2005 (the 2001) to the 2013 I drank recently, the quality has not changed. Rich currants and blackberry, firm tannins, and a satisfying long finish.

This wine seems ageless- I don't think it has even peaked yet. I shipped three bottles to the east coast for easter Dinner this year, and they stole the show. Incredible complexity and depth, with a fairly soft texture and resolved tannnins. Beautiful balance. A wonderful Right bank bordeaux with CA fruit.

Merlot is the way to go at Paloma! Actually, all there wines are very good but the Merlot, in its pure form, stands up to, (maybe beats), the best from the right bank!
