2016 Merlot

2016 Merlot

"94 points. The Merlot is once again a blend of Estate Merlot and Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. The resulting wine is a big, world-class red wine capable of improving with bottle aging for 10 to 15 years. Complex aromas of black berry fruits, black stone fruits, chocolate, tobacco, spice and floral notes with a mineral overtone. On the palate the wine has a big silky mouth feel, well balanced, with flavors of berries, fruit, cocoa, cassis, and spice, and a long spicy finish. ." - Brix26

The 2016 is a blend of Merlot (85%) with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon (15%). It is fermented in French oak—33% new—for 18 months before being bottled in the spring, then bottle-aged for an additional 30 months before release.

Tasting Notes
The 2016 Paloma Merlot soars out of the glass with gorgeous notes of rich, dark fruits, dominated by blackberry and blueberry, complemented by subtle notes of anise, cocoa and bramble.  The wine has a luscious mouthfeel, with sweet tannins and beautiful ripe fruit on the mid-palate.   While the alluring nose might tempt you to consume the wine rapidly, you will be rewarded by allowing the wine to evolve in the glass, revealing a long, silky finish.  We encourage you to enjoy this wine at this youthful stage and further appreciate the evolution of well structured, Spring Mountain fruit.

Full-bodied Merlot with layers and layers of structure. A real showstopper and one they will age well into the future.

Since their famed 2001 Wine of the Year from The Wine Spectator, Paloma has consistently made one of California’s top merlots. While built for the long haul, Paloma’s merlots are approachable when young. You will be hard pressed to find a better merlot in Napa.

Classic Paloma. Crushed dark berries and cedar on the nose. Soft, full bodied texture built on integrated tannins. Dark berries, bittersweet chocolate on the palate. Gets better after being opened and exposed to air.
